Karl Thomson is one of the leading technical and product advisers of StorageCraft solutions in the Asia Pacific region. While Karl has been part of the StorageCraft team for four years, he has used and implemented StorageCraft products across Private, Public and Hybrid Cloud for close to a decade, and has an extensive knowledge of the product and solution portfolio. Prior to joining StorageCraft, Karl was a senior engineer for several New Zealand reseller organisations. By drawing on this technical expertise, Karl brings added know-how to the pre-sales process. His ability to understand what solutions engineers require for particular implementations enables greater cohesion from sales through to the solution. Karl works as the bridge between StorageCraft product management and the customer around technical product requirements. He also engages regularly with internal engineering teams to scope out and provide solutions to complex technical issues. Karl is involved post-sale from a professional services standpoint to onboard customers and also trains partners to ensure they have the technical best practice capabilities across the StorageCraft solution. He can also provide product installations and custom product configurations. His technical knowledge is showcased in a series of YouTube videos he has created which focus on product demonstrations. These are used by the global StorageCraft team to educate and inform customers worldwide. Karl is a StorageCraft technical evangelist and much of his time is spent delivering technical product presentations, which incorporate live demonstrations of how StorageCraft's backup and recovery process works. With both a sales and engineering side to his role, Karl is always looking to ensure StorageCraft's solutions are relevant in the market and catering to customer needs. While many people believe backing up their important data once a day is fine, if something happens halfway through a day, the downtime cost can be substantial. Ransomware is now a major risk for businesses, compared to traditional hardware failure or a natural disaster, and this type of cyber-attack can happen at any time of the day. For Karl, that means changing the mindset of businesses to realise the importance of frequent daily backups. More recently, businesses have experienced an increasing number of ransomware incidents, driving a need for robust backup and recovery solutions. Karl holds a Diploma in Business Computing from AUT in New Zealand and is a Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator. He is also a StorageCraft Certified Master Engineer and a StorageCraft Certified Sales Professional.
